About College
Ours is a multi-faculty, Co-educational UG institution, affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Nestled in the lush green calm, pastoral milieu Indira Gandhi National College came into existence on 24th January, 1974 with the determined and incessant efforts made by its founder President Late Sh. Om Parkash Garg, a man of wisdom and animated social consciousness. The college is situated at Ladwa-Mustafabad road in village Dhanora. It was the philanthropic gesture of Gram Panchayat, village Dhanora, of giving the donation of 37 acres of land to the college for this noble purpose, as a result of which this college and Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Senior Secondary Public School could attain its present coveted status. The foundation stone of the college was laid by the then Chief Minister of Haryana Ch. Bansi Lal on January 24, 1974 after obtaining permission from the then Prime Minister Late Mrs. Indira Gandhi to christen the institution after her name. The newly constructed splendid building of the college was inaugurated on 30 November, 1975 by the then Governor of Haryana, Shri Birendra Narayan Chakraborty. Situated in the lap of picturesque beauty of nature, this holy temple of Saraswati started with the ceaseless efforts of Shri Om Prakash Garg and his education-loving companions. Since its inception, it has made rapid strides in various branches of knowledge viz. sports, cultural activities and ranks among the best rural colleges of Haryana. It can legitimately boast of being equipped with all the relevant streams of knowledge viz. science (Non-Medical & Medical), Commerce and Humanities. The establishment of Indira Gandhi National College has successfully fulfilled the requirement of higher education institution in this rural area. The college has proved itself a real asset for rural girl students of Ladwa and surrounding areas by providing them an equal and fair opportunity to attain higher education.
The college believes in nurturing the cultural diversity of nation. It offers admission to students of every caste, creed, culture and religion without any discrimination. The chief objective of the institution is to build good character of its students and transform them into trustworthy, respectable, caring and responsible citizens of society and nation. Our college has always been excellent in every field of education – curricular and extra-curricular. Here is the Gyantriveni of the Faculty of Arts, Commerce and Science. In the Faculty of Science, we also teach computer science subject. The result of our college is usually better than the result of university. The college has magnificently designed building, beautifully maintained lawns, a huge stadium covering an area of six acres, well equipped science laboratories; a rich library equipped with modern facilities, treasure of literary classics and science books.
Distinguished personalities have graced our institution from time to time with their benign presence in the college premises and endowed the students with their blessings. It is a matter of great pleasure and pride for us that many students of our college have got admission in various post graduate institutions and after completing their post graduation they are working in various specialized positions. Presently, the institution is progressing on the path of development under the wise guidance of Sh. Pawan Garg, President, Governing Body and members of his hardworking Steering Committee.
Under the benign and inspiring aegis of its dynamic governing body, Principal and qualified members of the Staff, the college is blazing the path of knowledge and reaching new academic horizons, catering to the needs of its rural and semi-rural surrounding area.
